Poppy, the
Westie, (West Highland Terrier), arrived home on November 11 after
a long drive through the snow from Vancouver. After an initial baptism of
“what puppies do best”, we made a pit stop in Chilliwack for baby wipes
and paper towels. |

January 4th 2007 I survived the Xmas Festivities, visits from Greg and Diana (thank you for making me so pretty on Christmas day and taking me to Heralds Park for a long walk.) Some pictures were taken for you to see. I was like a little snow ball. It was cold on my tummy dragging through the deep snow and my paws were all covered with balls of snow. Met some big dogs and they were quite friendly!!!
Arwynn and Chris came down from Revelstoke last Saturday and I really
tried to be good. I take Robin
for a walk down to the mailbox every day and if I am really energetic we
will go out again in the afternoon.

January 14 2007 No new pictures this time???? Well, I've been here over 2 months and boy I have ever learnt a lot, I can jump up on the big bed via a trunk which is handy and easier to jump up on first and then onto the bed, very comfy, Sure surprised Robin and Cynde. To day I tried the dining chairs for comfort, too hard, but easy to get at things which are on the dining table. Went for a walk today and met Sarah she is a neighbourhood dog and much older we touched noses but that was all. Yesterday, while Cynde was at work Robin put me in my crate for an afternoon nap, after all I am just a baby, well he left the gate open and I slept for 2 hours before coming out to the living room, was he ever surprised. I might do that again I got a treat. Robin bought a "Halti" I don't like it. I think he wants to slow me down when we go for walks. He can't keep up with me "old slow poke" He got his gold card from the Government the other day so I GUESS HE IS GETTING OLD!! It is too cold outside around -14 really nippy on my little feet. Any one got little booties? Got to go for
my nap I am getting a little out of hand. Bye for now. |

January 25th 2007 Robbie Burns Day (who ever he is) I went to see
my friendly vet , Kari, yesterday and I had the last of my "shots" for
2007 didn't even feel them. The liver treats were yummy, thanks. Cynde
and Robin had some instruction in behaviour modifications I am not sure
what that was all about, Cynde says that ignorance is not always
bliss when my new adult teeth are piercing skin but I am sure
she'll learn to accept.!!!!!!! |

January 30 2007 Yesterday, I
went to the groomer to have a "spa treatment" if you look below you will
see the before and after
It sure was
cool outside so I stayed inside when I came home and spent the whole
afternoon sleeping on the chesterfield in front of the fire. I didn't
even bother Robin who was doing all sorts of things in the back bedroom.
Of course that meant that I was up a good part of the night wanting to
play, Cynde of course stayed with me. To day it is still too cold to
spend much time outside so I'll spent the day chewing on a leather (or
something else anything at all) in front of the fire, sooo warm!! |

February 24
2007 Guess what? I got a tattoo. Yes I am like the rest of the kids now. But I really can't show it off. It is inside my ear. It's not very fancy some numbers and letters. When they
were doing my tattoo, I was under an anesthetic and had a operation. So
I can't have any puppies. March 21st
2007
The kids bought a game in
Kamloops "Mousetrap" I was not asked to play so I swallow one of the
steel marbles It slipped right down. Right now I am in the hospital,
they need to cut me open to remove the ball I'll be here for another
day.The vet took some pictures I am hoping to show everybody what my
insides look like with the ball in plain view. I might have that
tomorrow. So keep watching.

Just
found this article about Westies in the June 2007 edition of the
Scots Magazine. Christian Cameron-Head of Inverailort. ..................Christian had been brought up with Drynoch Terriers from early childhood - they had been bred by her family since the 1700s when her forbears on the Isle of Skye, the 5th and 6th Lairds of Drynoch, bred the first cream and white specimens from an earlier mongrel variety. By the early 1900s Drynoch had evolved to a distinct breed -m shortly to be known as the West Highland White Terrier, and formally classified as such by the Kennel Club in 1906. Christian did nothing by halves. She joined the West Highland White Terrier Clubs of England and Scotland as soon asthey were formed and a year later swept the board at Crufts and other national events. Her idea of atpye was a fixed one - she sought a "strong, small-boned dog, small enough to go to earth, and strong enoughto fight the quarry when he got there". By 1916 this defination of the breed together with others she contributed had been absorbed into the authoitative Kennel Encyclopaedia and The Hippodrome ( London Periodical) described her as a "foremost authority on the breed"..................................... |
