The years Alan & I spent as members of the Shuswap Sail Club were certainly memorable ones and we made many lasting friendships.  We shared many a delicious pot luck meal.

Alan loved his boat, Kestrel III and sailed the lake 12 months of the year in all kinds of weather. Some people questioned this behaviour, however, it truly demonstrated his passion for the sport.  He always tried to get the most out of his boat at any given time, thus his study of the winds and the setting of the rigging.

Alan left Kestrel III to his middle son, Warren, because he felt the same passion for sailing as Alan did.
You will  still see the boat on the lake as it is being sailed extensively.  Did you notice the boat on Canada Day????

Alan was a founding member of the Shuswap Sail Club, and over the years contributed to the welfare of the club in many many ways. One of his contributions was in the form of sailing hints by Captain Barnacle.

The Shuswap Sail Club has taken a hiatus from operation but in appreciation and in Al's memory I am sharing his
Sailing Hints.

Welcome to Captain Barnacle's Sailing Hints.  The Captain has put together ideas from his sailing experiences. The sketches are all drawn by him.
